The liberation of Iraq is now winding down to what is now mostly a security task of keeping Al Qaeda and the Iranian government from smuggling terrorists and weapons into the country.
None of that makes for major news, so the thoughts back here in America have turned to another topic — the economy.
Real estate prices are down. Stock prices are down. It’s a great time to invest — if you have the money and a strong stomach for market fluctuations.
As is usual with John McCain, this plan is incredibly middle-of-the-road. It borrows ideas from Democrats like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. It preaches fiscal conservatism and balanced budgets, while at the same time containing many provisions which reek of government intervention into the economy.
The plan is strong on improving America’s international competitiveness. The plan is also strong on energy independence, especially in it’s support for nuclear power.
The plan is weak in its concern for personal freedom by it’s support of CAFE, drug re-importation, and taxpayer funding for research.
The plan is far from perfect, but at the same time it is unimaginably better than Barack Obama’s Blueprint for Disaster.

Buckley had become concerned about the growing menace posed by Robert Welch and the John Birch Society.
The JBS was a powerful group of conspiracy theorists who believed, among other things, that President Eisenhower was a “dedicated, conscious agent of the Communist conspiracy” against the United States.
The JBS was slowly poising the growing conservative movement in the United States and threatening to turn it towards populism, racism, and ridiculous witch hunting in the search for imaginary conspirators.
Buckley finally denounced the society in the National Review:
How can the John Birch Society be an effective political instrument while it is led by a man whose views on current affairs are, at so many critical points . . . so far removed from common sense? That dilemma weighs on conservatives across America. . . . The underlying problem is whether conservatives can continue to acquiesce quietly in a rendition of the causes of the decline of the Republic and the entire Western world which is false, and, besides that, crucially different in practical emphasis from their own.
Goldwater risked his political career by responding supportively in the next issue of the same magazine:
I think you have clearly stated the problem which Mr. Welch’s continued leadership of the John Birch Society poses for sincere conservatives. . . . Mr. Welch is only one man, and I do not believe his views, far removed from reality and common sense as they are, represent the feelings of most members of the John Birch Society. . . . Because of this, I believe the best thing Mr. Welch could do to serve the cause of anti-Communism in the United States would be to resign. . . . We cannot allow the emblem of irresponsibility to attach to the conservative banner.
This story is as important now as it was forty years ago. The wounds which Bill Buckley and Barry Goldwater gave the John Birch Society turned out to be far from fatal. After decades in remission, the Bircher problem is once again growing in the conservative movement. Americans deeply in search of meaning and understanding in their political lives have become vulnerable to bizarre conspiracy theories which claim to provide answers to every possible political question.
The only real answer to this threat is education. Education is an effective immunization against the kind of bad thinking which leads people to believe in irrational conspiracy theories.

I really don’t care if Barack Obama is a Muslim. I also don’t care is Barack Obama was a Muslim and is now a Christian. I really don’t care what god, if any, Obama gives his obeisance to.
I am bothered by Obama’s easy willingness to give up his church in response to negative publicity. He attended that church for years and spent many Sunday mornings listening to racist tirades, but gave it up almost immediately in the face of negative publicity? Is that the kind of President we want, one without real personal beliefs and convictions?
And then there is the issue of Barack’s involvement with Islam. Barack has repeatedly lied about his experience with Islam. Daniel Pipes lays out the irrefutable evidence in Barack Obama’s Muslim Childhood.
I am not concerned with Barack Obama’s religion. I know many wonderful people who follow the Islamic faith. I am worried about Barack’s complete lack of respect or concern for the truth.
The mainstream media in this nation leans heavily towards the far left wing of the Democratic Party. As such, public discussion of these issues is almost nonexistent. The fourth estate is failing in its public responsibility to bring these issues to light. In the short term, we must work around their collusion with the Democratic Party. In the long term, we must replace them with professionals who adhere to a higher ethical standard.

James Fagan, a Democratic Representative to the Massachusetts legislature, recently became famous when he made the following remarks concerning child rape victims:
. . . that 6-year-old is going to sit in front of me, or somebody far worse than me and I’m going to rip them apart. I’m going to make sure that the rest of their life is ruined. That when they’re 8 years old they throw up; when they’re 12 years old, they won’t sleep. When they’re 19 years old they’ll have nightmares and they’ll never have a relationship with anybody. And that’s not because I’m a nice guy.

Alexa is a service which measures traffic to popular web sites on the Internet. Alexa is owned by Amazon.com.
Fort Liberty’s stat page at Alexa is very interesting, because it shows that 28.9% of Fort Liberty’s traffic comes from the nation of Iran. This is based upon traffic measured over the last 90 days.
It is enheartening to see that the good people of Iran are interested in liberty, even as their government opposes it at every turn.
Our heartfelt wishes go out to the people of Iran, hoping that they are able to throw off the bounds of tyranny and step forward into a brighter future as one of the leading nations of the Middle East and of the world.
Achieving this will be very difficult, as the totalitarian Iranian regime does not allow opposition candidates to compete in their sham elections. The fascist Iranian government also closes down newspapers and other publications which are critical of its dictatorial rule.
Obviously the Iranian government isn’t scaring everyone into submission, or this site would not be so popular among the Iranian people.

I was recently introduced to Pat Condell’s Godless Comedy. I am amazed that I haven’t heard of Pat before. His stuff is absolutely hilarious and, more importantly, it’s pro-liberty.
Pat is British and he’s a recovering Catholic. He doesn’t like religion and most of his material is devoted to bashing the three “desert religions” — Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. He does make room, from time to time, for new upstart religions like Scientology.
Pat’s an Atheist and he really tries to be offensive, but he’s just too damned funny to be truly offensive to anyone with a bit of intelligence and a good sense of humor.
Pat’s web site says “Hi, I’m Pat Condell. I don’t respect your beliefs and I don’t care if you’re offended. Cheers.” It’s wonderfully British and it’s a wonderful break from the horrible political correctness which is afflicting our nation.
I even find it hilarious when he picks on the United States and my President, George W. Bush. Pat’s pretty uncomfortable with Britain becoming the 51st state. Of course, neither he nor anyone else has a sensible alternative, so all any of us can do is laugh at the monumental role reversal that history has thrust upon us.
A twelve year old Canadian girl was grounded by her father for posting inappropriate pictures of herself online and chatting on websites that her father had tried to block.
As unsafe as the Internet is for children, this would normally be considered to be protecting your child as a conscientious parent.
The little girl didn’t thing so, so she took her dad to court. She used a court appointed lawyer to take her father to the Quebec Superior Court.
Justice Suzanne Tessier ordered the girls father to allow her to go on the school field trip from which she was banned.
Wow. I am almost speechless. The Canadian government now has so little respect for their citizens that they have now taken direct control of normal parenting decisions. How do the Canadian people accept such tyranny?
And what of the little girl? She must now be fully aware that she is without completely discipline. Will the Canadian government accept responsibility when she “matures” from an unruly 12 year old to an absolutely unfit 18yr old? When does the Quebec Superior Court decide is a good time for a 12yr old to go to bed? What clothes does the court feel that her parents should provide for her? What music does the court feel that a 12y old should be allowed to listen to? What boys will Superior Court Justice Tessier approve for the young girl to date? Where does the madness stop.
Thankfully, at the moment, this madness stops at the U.S. border. Our government, power mad as it may be, has yet to step this foolishly into this aspect of the lives of private citizens. Let’s hope that we don’t follow our Northern friends into this horrible folly.
The United Stated Declaration of Independence states “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
I have been talking lately with a lot of Americans who don’t believe that the founders meant “all men” and “unalienable” when they wrote “all men” and “unalienable.”
These folks are largely the Johnny-come-lately faux-libertarians whom Ron Paul attracted to the cause.
They believe, instead, that when the founds wrote “all men”, they means “all men with valid ID issued by the United States government.” These people do not believe that “all men” applies to immigrants — particularly Mexican immigrants.
The other portion of their disbelief relates to the word “unalienable.” When the Declaration of Independence says “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” they believe it relates only to men whom the Creator placed in the United States at birth. They do not believe that Mexican, Iraqi, or Aghani’s have the unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Their belief is that these rights come from the State and that they therefore apply only to American citizens. Obviously, this is not what the founders meant when they wrote “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights”.
Ron Paul is doing the entire nation a disservice by leading these young Americans down a dark and xenophobic path.
Nothing good can come from Americans abandoning our fellow men. If we follow Ron Paul’s recipe for disaster, America will become a besieged island of freedom in a globe full of nuclear-armed dictators. And eventually, we will cease to be anything at all.

The Department of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has rejected a plea for political asylum and is deporting seventeen year old Arthur Mkoyan to Armenia.
Arthur’s family has been applying for political asylum since 1992. Yes, that’s sixteen years of dealing with useless government bureaucracy. Arthur has been an American since he was only one year old. He’s being deported back to a hellhole that he was not old enough to remember.
The United States is losing one of our best and brightest young people due to laws created by ignorant congresspeople and enforced by mindless bureaucrats.
Bright young minds like Arthur’s are our nations most valuable resource and our government is pissing them away due to it’s own ineptitude. With a government like this, I do not know how long our nation will survive.
We used to say, “Bring us your tired, your poor, your wretched refuse yearning to be free.” Now we won’t even accept valedictorians. Maybe we don’t deserve to survive.

It is the story of Rand Abdel-Qader, a 17yr old Iraqi girl. Rand was working as a volunteer helping displaced families when she came into contact with Paul, a young British soldier who was working to distribute water to Iraqi’s.
Young Rand became infatuated with Paul. Their relation never progressed past a few spoken words, because Rand’s father Abdel-Qader Ali beat her to death when he discovered her interest in the young soldier.
Rand’s mother Leila Hussein tried to stop her young daughter from being beaten to death. She called her sons Hassan and Haydar to stop their fathers violent outrage. Instead, they joined in the bloodlust and helped beat their young sister to death.
After the murder, Leila went into hiding. Unfortunately, she was found and gunned down in cold blood just a few weeks later.
And the murderers? The father was arrested and released within two hours. The other two murderers, Hassan and Haydar, were never arrested.
Islam means submission, but there are some whom mistakenly translate it to mean “peace.” Rand and Leila have found the peace of Islam.
Rand’s mother used to call her “Rose”, so this image is displayed in her honor.
Here is to Rose, whose love knew no boundaries and whose life was taken so young by those who know no love.
